01 / OVERVIEW

From scan to CAD in SOLIDWORKS.

Reconstruct scanned parts directly in your design environment. The QUICKSURFACE add-in links the mesh, reference geometry, sketches and deviation analysis with SOLIDWORKS Desktop tools.

02 / 01 / IMPORT

Bring the scan into SOLIDWORKS.

Import scan data as a spatial reference. Mesh tools prepare the starting point for reconstructing a mechanical part.

03 / 02 / REFERENCES

Define planes and key features.

Extract reference geometry from the scan. Use detected planes, cylinders and other features for alignment and later design.

04 / 03 / SKETCHING

Turn the shape into usable sections.

Prepare cross-sections and sketches for extrusions or revolves. This links the measured shape to the design process.

05 / 04 / DESIGN

Continue with tools you know.

Create surfaces or solids with SOLIDWORKS design features. The reference scan remains the basis for checking the reconstructed shape.

06 / 05 / FREEFORM SURFACES

Reconstruct complex shapes.

For freeform and organic shapes use surface fitting. Reconstruct the shape from the scanned mesh and include it in the further design workflow.

07 / 06 / INSPECTION

Make the fit visible.

Compare a surface or solid CAD model with the reference scan. A colour map helps find areas where the model deviates from the measured part.
